review of dozens of past death penalty cases amid accusations of prosecutorial misconduct. >> this is ktvu, fox two news at 730. >> and good evening, everyone. i'm heather holmes. we begin tonight with that late news today that cecil williams has died. a look at the remarkable contributions now he made to san francisco in his mission to uplift the most vulnerable in our society. crystal bailey is here now with reaction. crystal. well reverend cecil williams spoke out against injustice, leading with compassion and kindness to pursue equality for people from all walks of life. >> now the faith based activist pastored and grew glide memorial methodist church in the tenderloin, known for providing resources to marginalized communities and people in need. he fought alongside angela davis and the black panthers for social justice, even if it meant jail time. he was an advocate for the poor and disenfranchized, he told ktvu

back in 2019 on his 90th birthday. he does it all for love. >> what we see is a people that needs love, a people that need also to say to each other, i care. i will be with you. i'm not going to give up on you. never, never, never. >> and even though cecil was 94 and he lived a long and beautiful and impactful life, nothing takes away that sting of knowing that he is gone now. >> in a statement by governor gavin newsom, he calls cecil a visionary leader who offered refuge and support to all who entered their doors. reverend williams truly embodied the california values of unity, generosity and acceptance, and mayor london breed shared this photo on x, formerly twitter, where she wrote growing up, there were members of the african american community that inspired us to dream and to serve and cecil williams was at the top of that list. we all benefited from his guidance, his support and his moral compass.

we would not be who we are as a city and a people without the legendary cecil williams. now, state politicians like senator alex padilla and assembly member matt haney also sharing their condolences. a loss felt not just here in the bay area, but all around the world. glide church leaders say that his family is on their way to san francisco if they're not already here, and tonight we'll have more on his life and legacy on the 10:00 news. heather. >> yeah, crystal i've had the pleasure of interviewing cecil many times over my career here at ktvu. a genuine man who genuinely cared so much about the people of san francisco. crystal. thank you. looking forward to more reports tonight at miramonte high school in orinda. was in lockdown today in response to a security threat. school officials say the lockdown began around 230 this afternoon when someone called the school, threatening to come to campus and cause harm. police were called an officers searched the campus, school officials reported that all students and staff were safe. gun high school in palo alto was in shelter in place due to what police called

an unconfirmed threat there. police responded around 230 this afternoon and said that fletcher middle school nearby was also in shelter in place, all as a precautionary measure. no threat was found at either location, and all students and staff were reported safe as well. alameda county district attorney pamela price today accused county prosecutors in previous administration of intentionally excluding black and jewish jewish jurors in death penalty cases at ktvu, henry lee reports. that has prompted price to begin a review of dozens of past cases. >> this is not about left or right or any kind of politics. this is about ethics. >> alameda county da pamela price says she has evidence showing former prosecutors illegally kicked off jurors from death penalty cases. >> prosecutors in the alameda county district attorney's office may have intentionally. we appear to have intentionally excluded jewish and black jurors from death penalty cases, she says. >> this has led a federal judge

to order a review of about three dozen death penalty cases. >> my office discovered evidence of a pattern of misconduct, prosecutors misconduct that may well impact all of the death penalty cases in alameda county. >> the allegations surfaced during a review of the case against ernest dike, who is on death row after being convicted of murdering nine year old lance clark in east oakland in 1993 and injuring his grandmother during a robbery attempt, price said her office found these handwritten notes, which apparently show prosecutors purposefully excluding jewish and black female jurors from the jury pool. >> this is something that's been going on in alameda for it's been it's been, the worst kept secret. >> brian pomerantz is an attorney representing dikes. he says those notes also included purportedly race neutral reasons as to why jurors were tossed. >> so these aren't notes that just are showing we don't like this juror for this reason. they it was a scheme to be able to get away with it. >> he provided at least one rationale as to why prosecutors

may have chosen to exclude jewish jurors. >> there was a belief at the time that because the gas chamber was what was used in california, that jewish jurors would not want to send people to the gas chamber, pomerantz said it took price, a progressive da who ran on a platform to reform the criminal justice system, to bring these allegations to light. it took pamela price to bring this about. it should have happened in previous administrations. the attorney tells me. >> one of those prosecutors is now an alameda county superior court judge in oakland. henry lee ktvu, fox two news. >> now we go to hillsborough tonight where police there are investigating a stabbing that took place at a skate park that sent a teenager to the hospital. it happened around 1030 last night near the carson warner memorial skate park. a 16 year old boy was found with several stab wounds. he was taken to the hospital. authorities say his injuries are serious but that he is expected to recover. so far, police have not released any information on a suspect or an arrest. we are learning more tonight about a child sex abuse sting operation that resulted in the arrest of 20 people,

including a san jose fire captain. officials in sacramento said today that that sting, called operation spring cleaning, involves several law enforcement agencies over the course of three days about 100 undercover officers conducted chats with adults seeking to meet children for sexual acts. >> as undercover detectives posed as children 13 years old and younger on various social media platforms. suspects often directed these kids to commit sexual acts and or asked for material. some of the suspects would send material to our undercover officers. suspects arranged to meet and have sexual contact with the undercover officers. >> the san jose fire captain, spencer parker, is no longer employed by the city. he's facing three felony charges of trying to arrange sex with a 13 year old girl. coming up tonight , what we know from marine mammal experts about that dead whale that was found over the weekend off alameda and governor newsom marks earth day today at california's newest state park.

since the friendly fire death of bay area native and army ranger pat tillman. tillman was a graduate of leland high school in san jose, went on to arizona state on a football scholarship before being drafted by the arizona cardinals after the september 11th attack. tillman gave up his nfl career to enlist in the army and joined the elite army rangers. the military initially said that tillman died when his unit was attacked in an ambush in afghanistan. a department of defense and congressional investigation later found that he was killed by friendly fire. tillman was just 27 years old. governor newsom celebrating earth day today by showing off california's newest state park. governor newsom, first partner jennifer siebel newsom and civil rights activist dolores huerta were in stanislaus county for the new parks dedication. dos rios ranch state park consists of 1600 acres of rehabilitated natural open space along the san joaquin and tuolumne rivers, near modesto. the area was transformed from farmland. it is

the first new state park here in california in nearly a decade. >> we are here today in modesto at dos rios because again, it is a wonderful, a beautiful, a magical example of the work we're doing to heal our environment and ourselves through restoration of this beautiful land and the protection of the endangered species who call it home. >> san joaquin valley, in fact, per capita has the lowest per capita open space and parks. any other region in the state of california. and that's why this is so profound. >> the park project cost more than $45 million from public and private funding. dos rios ranch state park is set to open in just a few months in june. the east bay regional park district is set to receive nearly $1.4 million in federal funding for wildfire prevention and forest work. the funding comes from bipartisan legislation signed by president biden back in march. the funds will be used to mainly

remove dead and dying trees in regional parks. the financial boost will also improve existing year round efforts to prevent wildfires. new at 730 tonight, bring your child to work day coincided with earth day today at the valley transportation authority, so dozens of kids came to work and took part in activities promoting environmental awareness. the kids learned about the importance of recycling and proper waste disposal, creating art with recycled material, and also environmental stewardship. and earlier today on the four, i spoke to an oceanographer and climate scientist. she's part of a group called science moms that promotes small changes that make a big difference. >> swap whenever you can away from carbon polluting things to non carbon polluting things. electrify whenever you can reduce, reuse, recycle and so swap and then share when you have a triumph or a better way of doing things that cuts your carbon footprint and helps put us on the road to low carbon. share about it. share with your

essentially that will be the story for tomorrow as well for your tuesday. more low clouds and fog tuesday morning partly sunny into the afternoon hours. you can see at 7:00 in the upper 40s to the 50s by lunchtime, approaching the 60 degree mark, and then by 4 p.m, there's the eventual temperature range from 60 to 70 degrees. here's a satellite throughout the day. now, yesterday at this time, we were pointing at the fog and it was down just in southern california. but between yesterday and also right now, that fog has kind of raced up our coastline. we call that the southerly surge, and it's having a big impact on our temperatures . these current numbers out there right now, san jose 67 degrees. it is cool though, out toward half moon bay in san francisco, mid to upper 50s and napa has cooled off to 59. we'll check in on some of the current wind reports. look at napa, the airport gusting to 30 miles an hour. vacaville gusting to 20 miles an hour. here's some more reports for you at half moon bay. at about 14 miles an hour in san jose, winds at about 13 miles an hour. here's our live camera looking out toward sfo

this evening. still mostly clear skies, but you can see right here there's that fog bank getting its act together, and it's going to expand in size overnight. so first thing tomorrow morning we are expecting mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 40s to the 50s. and that's the forecast model is thinking tomorrow morning and then into the afternoon. our skies becoming partly sunny, but definitely a big shift in temperatures heading cooling off. as you can see, 60 to the right, right around 70 degrees by about 3 or 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. and the winds will be picking up once again around 15 to 25 miles an hour. so this area of high pressure, this is moving on out of town. we're tracking a cooler system that's approaching our coastline. so tuesday and wednesday more clouds cooling continues. and then by thursday night into friday, there's the chance we could actually have a few showers here in the bay area. so here we are. this is wednesday. maybe some showers developing in portions of the sierra. and then thursday you'll definitely see some clouds move in. the bulk of the shower activity is up to our north, but by thursday night into friday, we keep an eye on

those shower chances. back at least approaching the bay area highs for tomorrow will be in the 60s. warmest locations close to 70 degrees toward concord, livermore and antioch. and here's a look ahead. your five day forecast. cooler temperatures, more clouds. there's that shower chance by friday, and then into the weekend. it will not be as warm as last weekend, but still a little bit of a bump in the numbers, especially by sunday. heather. >> okay, mark, thank you very much. san jose city officials unveiling a new affordable housing complex coming up, how it's designed to get people off the streets and also assist low income earners. we'll have more on that. also, they aren't even out of elementary school yet, but this group of oakland students delivered a big presentation at an education conference. what they say about quality of education in underserved communities, and san francisco's oldest gay bar has a new home coming where the

solaire apartments is located on azria's avenue. it consists of 130 units with half reserved for permanent supportive housing. to address the homeless crisis, the remaining units are restricted to households earning between 50 to 60% of the area median income . today, san jose mayor matt mehan touted the city's efforts to build more housing. >> we know that we face a tremendous crisis of lack of housing affordability, lack of housing supply. we are a pro housing city at all income levels. >> the property also includes a fitness studio, computer learning center and a community garden. that project was funded by nonprofit housing trust silicon valley. we're now hearing from more of those google cloud workers who were arrested and fired for protesting inside company offices against a contract that google has with israel. 28

workers were fired after this sit in in protest last week at google offices. it was over the company's $1.2 billion contract with the israeli government and military, which is dubbed project nimbus. many of the fired workers claim that they did not directly participate in the sit in. >> google engaged in further indiscriminate retaliation against 20 plus workers, including many nonparticipating bystanders. it is clear that google is afraid, and they're trying to send a message that protesting for our labor conditions will not be tolerated within the company. this is a legal fearmongering, and it will not stop us from continuing to organize and fight for the company to drop project nimbus. >> now, google calls the actions of those workers who were fired unacceptable and disruptive, and say the employees violated company policy. a group of oakland fifth graders is just back from a trip to philadelphia, where the students spoke at an education conference. those students from the academy of knowledge school

traveled with their teacher, lawrence tan, earlier this month. they delivered a presentation on their research on the quality of education in underserved communities and how schools can create a more equitable landscape for students of color. and earlier today on the four, i spoke to that teacher, mr. tan, and the students about their project. >> what we did during this project was basically we researched reparations, especially in oac and how they were being delivered, and we researched equity in schools and seeing what we were actually doing as equity. and if what we did as equity was truly equity. >> and the student teacher says the kids worked all through spring break on that research project so that they were prepared when they presented their work in philadelphia. those were such impressive students. so glad they got to talk with them today. new at 730 tonight, san francisco's oldest queer bar and nightclub has reopened in a new location. the stud, held its grand reopening
