gust up to 60 miles an hour by tomorrow afternoon and evening with that high wind warning and of course down the shore we have the coastal flood warning for multiple high tide cycles. they will take a battering down the shore as that system just kind of cranks up and you can see those lines, those isobars indicating very tightly packed gradient so that will mean those strong damaging winds. when i come indoors, we'll go hour by hour, timing out the snow, timing out the rainfall, and also preview the weekend. iain, back over to you. >> scott, thank you very. we have high winds and they prom add warning to construction companies around philadelphia. especially when it comes to high rise buildings. l and i reminding managers to make sure your scaffolding fen fencing and cranes are secure. meanwhile our chris o'connell is down the shore in avalon. people getting ready for big hit there. chris. >> reporter: that is right, iain. ya, the shore bracing for exactly what scott was talking

about. a long wet and windy weekend that rain that will saturate the entire area just started down the shore here a little while ago. and so have the preparations. take look behind me. we're at the base of the townsend inlet bridge. this the bridge that connects avalon and sea isle. it was shut down about an hour ago because of safety concerns of the storm surge. and the flooding. if you know this bridge, you see those nor'easter just does some damage to this bridge. it will stay closed until at least saturday night. now, shore homeowners kept busy today laying down those sand bags in anticipation of the coastal flooding that's expect expected. especially in these low-lying areas. if you live down the shore, you have interest down here you know the drill. it doesn't take long for these streets to flood down here we saw people boarding up their garages with plywood. borough officials in avalon will be stepping out a reverse 911 call tonight warning residents to plan for a long weekend ahe

ahead. we're concerned about saturday morning high tide event for the jersey shore where we are in avalon it appears to be moderate coastal flooding and really the winds in this storm are going to be a big deal into the latter part of friday and overnight into saturday morning. gusts up to 60 miles an hour. >> reporter: and because of that, cape may county officials are telling residents to bring in any kind of outdoor furnitu furniture, plants, trash cans, anything that could be flying projectiles in what anticipated to be tropical storm force winds and more down here at the shore. of course, we'll have a complete update coming up tonight at 10:00. iain. >> chris, thank you. through new jersey school districts shut down today due to threats and police say a ten-year-old boy parents of the students in franklin township elk township and delsea regional district woke up to news of an e-mail threatening a shooting. police say a teacher at caroline

ritter school got the e-mail from unknown center around 1:30 this morning and teacher immediately called police. >> while the investigation was on going, the person responsible for these actions continued to send e-mails to not only teachers but now principals in our district. this person also sent e-mails to the superintendent. >> police say the ten-year-old student admitted to the crime and has been charged with making terroristic threats and also causing false public alarm. authorities are seeking psychological help for him and after that, he'll be released to his parents. the districts will reopen tomorrow. meanwhile, in upper darby beverly hills middle school on lock down today after police say a student displayed a pellet gun while on the way to school. they say the gun never made it inside. police recovered it hidden nearby on side street. thankfully no one was hurt. a scary morning at cumberland county school where the school had to go on lock down after someone reported a

hostile intruder. it happened around 9:30 this morning. the school's website posting a notice alerting students to secure themselves in a safe location. the school was on lock down for about an hour and a half while police searched the campus. thankfully no threat was found. happening now, more fallout for a pennsylvania state representative, pennsylvania republican leaders are calling for representative nick miccarelli out of delaware county to step down tonight. just a day after the news surfaced of two women accusing him of assault. fox 29's jeff cole has more from ridley park. >> reporter: along with a call for resignation, the dauphin county district attorney confirms to fox 29 he's opened a criminal investigation of miccarelli both of his accusers confirm they have had consensual relationships with him but now they've stepped forward to accuse him. there was no response to a knock at the delaware county home of representative nick miccarelli. his office workers said they had had not seen hem but just up the

street there's concern. >> i'm shocked because he seemed like a complete gentleman, and he was strictly business. he did what was good for the township. >> reporter: fox 29 has confirmed through the lawyer of the representatives two accusers what the inquirer first reported. that the women in a private complaint have accused the veteran republican of sexual assault and domestic violence. miccarelli wednesday from his backyard are a cued, he was innocent. >> what's going on in harrisbu harrisburg, what's happening up there? >> um, this week there's a couple things going on but i just got married. >> reporter: tonight miccarelli's fellow house republicans are urging him to step down after an internal investigation. and the dauphin county district attorney confirms to fox 29 he's open to criminal probe. >> allegations of behavior can you tell me about it? >> jeff, all i can tell you i've done nothing wrong. >> reporter: a source close to the investigation tells fox 29 miccarelli must now enter the capital as the public does

through a metal detector. due to concerns he's carried a gun into the building. the attorney for the accuser says one of her clients who had a relationship ship with him claims the arm veteran pointed a gun at her and threatened to crash his car while driving at high speeds. the other says, he sexually assaulted her after they broke up. >> i'm at home on my personal property, jeff. and if, you know, i understan understand -- >> mike nick i've known you for a long time. i'm here to get your side of it. i'm trying to do a fair job here. >> you'd like to have a conversation, sit down don that at my office when i'm not, upping, back of my house doing yard work with my dogs. >> reporter: he says he's not seen the complaint that has been made against him. says he's not the person depicted in news reports and says he is running for re-election. in delaware county, i'm jeff cole, fox 29 news. >> the philadelphia police officer caught on camera body slamming a handcuffed man has been charged with assault. the district attorney's office says james yeager was arrested

today you may remember seeing this video last july shows yeager picking up the guy smashing his head into side of a pool. the da's office says quote his behavior was unacceptable and he had to be held accountable. yeager was fired in august of last year. three people arrested in delaware after police say they had thousands of bags of heroin at a home in newark. this three are facing drug related charges. investigators say they found more than thee thousand bags of heroin and more than $4,000 of suspected drug money in lieu go and harris home on the 900 block of greentree road. all three are charged with possession of heroin and a tear five quantity conspiracy and some other related charges. we're now getting a look at philadelphia mayor jim kenney's budget proposal for the fiscal year 2019. the mayor pitched a $4.9 billion budget to city council today. it mainly focuses on public safety, improving the city schools. also includes a 6% increase in

property taxes to help close the district's definite set. the mayor says it could bring the district $475 million over the next five years. mayor kenney also adds that there are some new underdogs in town. >> these students are waiting for their shot at greatness. just like that team of under dogs we cheered on broad street and the parkway a few week ago. the truth is, i believe the real philadelphia under dogs are our students. hundreds of thousands of preschoolers, children, teens, young women and young men who have been poorly served by an under funded school district. >> kenney also talked about invest manies to the police and fire departments. the opioid crisis and the soda tax. a major bust of a crime ring spanning five counties. investigators say it brought in big money and preyed on those addicted to heroin. dave schratwieser has more from bristol pennsylvania. >> reporter: pawn shop owner michael stein and his employees were tight lipped as they came

to court in handcuffs thursday. charged in a wide sweeping conspiracy to resell merchandise stolen from big box stores and retailers across the region. authorities say the scheme netted $500,000. >> this is ultimately in a nutshell a case about greed. >> reporter: stein and four others were charged with participating in a corrupt organization after state and local investigators uncovered the multi county scheme in which so hoy called boosters would steal new items still in their boxes from stores like home depot, walmart, target, cvs and giant. >> the boosters stole kitchen faucets and blenders and vacuum cleaners. report roar the 27 booster who's were charged brought in 5,000 stolen items to pawn shops allegedly controlled by stein. they got paid a third of the value for the items. the stolen merchandise would then be taken to warehouse and offered for sale online. >> mr. stein is not accused of

stealing property. he's not accused of directing anyone to steal property. it's really just he should have known that the items that were coming in were stolen. >> reporter: state investigators say the so-called boosters were professional retail thieves who are opioid dependent. many times using the money to feed their habits. >> stein and his employees profited off the addiction of others. >> reporter: four months ago fox 29 was there when the state attorney general' office raided pawn shops across the area including several in delaware county. they also seized items from this warehouse more charge charges ad arrests are expect glad at the end of the day who pays for all of this? the consumers in pennsylvania pay for it because the price of their products have gone up. >> reporter: the attorney general says schemes like this fuel opioid and heroin addiction statewide. he points out that 15 pennsylvanians od every day. 168 people died of overdoses in bucks county last year alone.

that's a 43% increase. all of the defendants were released on bail. more charges and arrests are expected. in bucks county, dave schratwieser, fox 29 news. ♪ breaking news right now. allentown mayor ed pawlowski found guilty on nearly all charges in his federal corruption trial. the morning call newspaper is reporting jurors found him guilty on 47 of the 54 charges for allegations that he traded city contracts for campaign cash. the charges include fraud, bribery, attempted extortion and lying to the fbi. pawlowski has main taped his innocence. now in the wake of that de deadly school shooting in park land, florida, schools in our area bulking up security to try and help keep kids and teachers safe. tom yes. >> iain is lebron james really looking at certain schools in the philadelphia area with free agency on the horizon? that plus a tricky night ahead for your philadelphia flyers

♪ school security is popular topic these days evesham township police are hiring more officers so armed officers can actually keep watch inside schools. fox 29's dave kinchen has more from burlington county. i think having armed officers walking up and down the hallways are going to make people think something is bad. something is bad going to happen at any minute now. >> reporter: jose cordero is one parent who is not entirely fond of more armed police officers in the evesham township schools. a safety sure up after the massacre in park land, florida. but he thinks his daughter may ham it differently. >> do you think your kid in the younger grade would be worried about seeing a guy with gun or a cop with a gun at a school. >> i don't think so because she cease him every morning. officer dan is his name? right. >> there's multiple. >> so there's an officer there every morning. >> reporter: evesham police announced a job search looking to hire armed guards to protect the elementary and middle

schools in the township. it's part of the class thee special police officer initiative. the high school students already see officers on patrol in between their classes. >> oh, i feel they should. i totally free they should. >> reporter: we asked area parents like nancy hoy for opinions. she says it's all about communication. >> police officers with guns in the school, would you be concern about that. >> no, no, no. my husband and i would have an explanation with him about it. so i think it would be fine. >> reporter: how would you feel about that. >> i would feel good. >> reporter: you'd feel okay if you saw them. no worries. >> um-hmm. >> reporter: evesham police say they are looking for retired cops under 65 who live in new jersey for the job. they will also need the proper certifications and will take orders directly from the chief. many parents recognize the move as a sign of the dangerous times we are in. >> based on recent occurrences i think it's a great idea to get more presence of the police involved and i'm actually happy about because i have a child in

college and i have a child in middle school, it's just very disheartening and scary. >> reporter: dave kinchen, fox 29 news. >> back to your fox 29 weather authority now. as we take a look at old city outside our studios a big front moving in bringing with it heavy rain and wind and the poconos could see several inches of snow. scott will break it all down for in you just 15 seconds. major impacts with this coastal storm brewing all the ingredients coming together. we've been talking about it all week long. area of low pressure around parts of the great lakes will transfer its energy to the coast and look at that moisture moving right toward the delaware vall valley. right now we're looking at some pocks of light rainfall interior south jersey. the i-95 corridor. points north and west looking at

some of that that steadier rain. zoom in to around center city, abington, norriston as you move toward cherry hill, voorhees, mount laurel, moorestown, willingboro looking at some of the wet conditions here on this thursday. so soaking rain especially overnight tonight. i'd say between 9:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. we're logging at the heaviest of the rain. then the high winds pick up especially tomorrow afternoon and evening. winds gusting 50 to 60 miles per hour power outages will be a problem so secure the trash cans the loose lawn furniture now is the time to do that before those winds really start to pick up tomorrow afternoon. we're looking at rain changing over to wet snow as far south as philadelphia tomorrow. but the accumulating snowfall well north and west toward the poconos where they could see a half a foot to maybe even a foot of snow. wet heavy snow as we do hour by hour, you can see the rain overnight tonight through early

on your friday morning. and then look at that cold air rushing from north to south. temperatures will be marginal. so wet snow not really sticking to anything. the exception once again north of the pennsylvania turnpike once you move toward the lehigh tunnel especially watching out for that heavy snow it's out of here by saturday. but we're still stuck with the gusty winds. by 10:00 a.m. those winds gusting over 30 miles per hour. 30 to 40 even 58 miles per hour winds parts of south jersey by tomorrow afternoon. and then take a lock at tomorrow evening. gusts over 60 miles per hour so power outages a good likelihood not om down the shore. the poconos but even toward the i-95 corridor. we'll have to watch out for that. also, the snow, we're talking over half a foot likely toward sections of the poconos. a few wet makes will mix in once we move toward philadelphia and interior south jersey. temperatures in the seven day forecast 44 degrees the high temperature tomorrow.
